Dr Jennifer Green

story.

orthopaedic surgeon. board director. advocate.

As an orthopaedic surgeon for 25 years and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, I offer extensive clinical experience, dedication to excellence in patient care, and proven expertise in not-for-profit governance. My career has spanned multiple state and international jurisdictions - Australia (NSW, Queensland, and the ACT), New Zealand, the United States and France, providing a global network and unique ainsights into healthcare systems. In governance, I have contributed to shaping impactful policies and strategies that benefit organisations, individuals and entire communities.

I've served in multiple leadership positions, including on the board of directors of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA), developing strategy, delivering high value programs, and fostering excellence and equity in orthopaedic healthcare. As a director of the Australian Hand Surgery Society, I partnered with members to define and achieve strategic goals and established robust governance and communication systems. I’ve proudly represented the AOA and AHSS at major national and international events.

As founder of the International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance, I have united hundreds of advocates worldwide and collaborated to create achieveable strategies and deliver initiatives to increase equity in orthopaedic care. I’ve participated in outreach teaching and surgery in Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Pacific Islands. I am an active advocate for Indigenous healthcare and an associate member of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association.

Mentoring aspiring surgeons from diverse backgrounds locally and internationally is deeply important to me. This enables those who are under-represented in surgery to find a pathway and drive more equitable delivery of healthcare.

My core strengths include global experience, clear and collaborative leadership, insightful policy development, inclusive stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based decision-making. I am committed to making a positive impact—whether it's in the operating room, on boards, or throughout the community.

Receiving the inaugural Australian Medical Association Diversity in Medicine Award (2022) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association Diversity Award (2024) has been an honour but most importantly these moments have been an opportunity to champion equity in healthcare.
